BLACK PEG’S SON
I was born in a cave in the Pennine region.
My cradle was the grave of a travelling man.
My toys were the bones of the souls lost on the moors.
And my playmates were the crows as I crawled on all fours.
I am Black Peg’s Son.
They call me an abomination.
My first recollection is the full moon in the night.
And the hot flesh spitting in the fire light.
My mammy sitting naked with a rock in her hand.
Pounding out the songs of the dolorous and the damned.
Yea, I am Black Peg’s Son.
They call me the abjuration.
Abhorrence churned the guts of the first folk that I met.
See to me they were like sheep, only good to be eat.
With their piggy little eyes and their blood like wine.
And their carrion smell, I had to make ‘em mine.
‘cos I am Black Peg’s Son.
And I’m a hungry man.
Then one day I saw a vision so fair.
A wonderful creature with golden hair.
She smelled of mystery, intoxicating, sweet.
So I sang her my song as I fell at her feet.
Singing, I am Black Peg’s Son.
They call me an abomination
Oh yea now, I am Black Peg’s Son.
And I’m a hungry man.
Well my end came swift on that magical day.
As I followed her home like a wolf courts its prey.
She screamed her love to the valleys and the hills.
'Till her kin came running for to do me ill.
Shouting lo, yonder, it’s Black Peg’s Son.
Kill, kill, kill the abjuration.
Well they tied me to a tree with a spike through my side.
Left my body to rot on the green hillside.
Forgive them Mammy for they know not what they do.
My firm young flesh would have made a mighty stew!
Yea now, I am Black Peg’s Son.
They called me an abomination.
Oh yea, I am Black Peg’s Son.
And now my song is done.
